Even Wood Deserves A Second Chance

Sometimes, during shipping, a fully assembled reclaimed wood table may experience jolts and bumps, and climate changes can also cause slight misalignment—just like any settling wooden furniture. This can be easily adjusted by shimming with felt pads to ensure perfect stability. Felt pads are available upon request.

What to Expect: The Unique Character of Reclaimed Wood

At Doug and Cristy Designs, we take pride in crafting furniture from reclaimed wood, giving each piece a story and character that can’t be replicated. Every grain, knot, and imperfection carries history, making each item truly one-of-a-kind. Rather than viewing these marks as flaws, we embrace them as a testament to the wood’s journey and authenticity.

Common Characteristics of Reclaimed Wood

  • Knots & Nail Holes: Knots add rustic beauty, while nail holes tell the story of the wood’s past life. Some may be left open, while others are carefully filled, maintaining the reclaimed aesthetic.
  • Variations in Color & Grain: Because reclaimed wood comes from a variety of sources, no two boards are exactly alike. Expect unique differences in tone, grain patterns, and occasional saw marks, adding depth and character to your furniture.
  • Cracks & Splits: Small cracks and splits naturally develop over time, showcasing the wood’s age and history. While we ensure every piece is structurally sound, these elements contribute to the rich, timeworn appeal.
  • Natural Distressing & Weathering: Slight gouges, uneven edges, and worn surfaces result from years of exposure and use. We carefully balance these features to maintain durability while preserving the wood’s character.
  • Old Fastener & Hardware Marks: Remnants of past hardware, such as screw holes or faint metal stains, may be visible—serving as reminders of the wood’s former life and adding to its charm.

Our Craftsmanship Guarantee

While we celebrate the beauty of reclaimed wood, we also take great care to ensure quality and longevity. Each piece is reinforced and finished with expert craftsmanship, ensuring it is not only beautiful but built to last. If you have specific preferences, we’re happy to discuss custom options to meet your needs.

Your furniture is more than just decor—it’s a piece of history, crafted to be cherished for generations. Thank you for choosing sustainable craftsmanship that tells a story.

Caring for Your Reclaimed Wood Furniture

To keep your reclaimed wood furniture looking its best, simply clean it with a damp cloth. We recommend avoiding harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the wood over time.

While we don’t offer additional sealing services, you can apply a wood sealer or polyurethane finish if you’d like extra protection. Please note that adding a finish will deepen the color of the wood and may change its natural look, so be sure to test a small area first to ensure you're happy with the result.
